The Downtown Harrisonburg Farmer's Market is open for the 2008 season. The market is open every Tuesday and Saturday through November from 7 a.m.—1 p.m. Fresh spring greens, free range eggs and meats, a wide variety of breads and baked goods, soups, goat cheese, herbs, bedding plants and more.

The Carrier Library will feature "Dressing for Education: JMU in the Founding Years 1909—1929" through May 2008. The exhibit will feature photographs, yearbooks and other items from the Special Collections' JMU Historical Collection as well as period clothing from the School of Theatre and Dance's Historic Clothing Collection. Open during regular library hours. The library is also featuring "The Houck Tannery: Jewel of Harrisonburg's Industrial Age" through the fall semester in the hallway outside Room 207.

The Harrisonburg—Rockingham Historical Society Center is featuring permanent exhibits, 'Invincible Spirit: History in the Heart of the Shenandoah Valley' and 'The Art of Tradition: Shenandoah Valley Folk Art' on display. The center is also featuring 'Boats, Wagons, Trains & Cars: 200 Years of Transportation in the Shenandoah Valley, 1739—1939', which will run through May 17.

The Valley Turnpike Museum has recreated 1862 Harrisonburg in a scaled model to illustrate the story of the first engine to come through the city along the Valley Turnpike. The public is invited to the dedication of the exhibit, '1862 Harrisonburg and Engine 199' at 4 p.m. on April 2. Light refreshments will be served. The museum is open 9 a.m.—5 p.m., Monday—Sunday.

Tini's Lounge at Downtown 56 will feature the 'Ted Owens Trio' from 8—11 p.m. on May 9 and Alex Lacquement, Jared Bookbinder from 8—11 p.m. on May 10, the 'Robert Payne Trio' from 8—11 p.m. on May 16 and the 'David Pope Duo' from 8—11 p.m. on May 17. Tuesday's on the Terrace features Scott Murray from 7—10 p.m. Jim Budzius is performing on Wednesday (ladies night) from 7—10 p.m. Scott Murray continues to perform from 7—10 p.m. every Thursday.

The Art Group will host First Friday from 7—10 p.m. on April 4 and will feature Joe Herbert & Friends. The gallery will host its annual Student Art Show during May. The month long exhibit will showcase work from students attending North Fork Middle and Stonewall Jackson High schools. A reception will be held from 1—3 p.m. on May 18. The gallery is open from 10 a.m.—5 p.m. Monday, Thursday—Saturday, and noon—5 p.m. on Sunday.
