MOUNT CRAWFORD — Multiple federal agencies raided a Mount Crawford trucking company Tuesday, sources say.

Employees at Beam Brothers Trucking, located at 5978 South Valley Pike, say several federal agencies were at the company for most of the day. Among the trucking company’s clients is the U.S. Postal Service, for which it has a contract to haul mail.

Details on what the federal agents were looking for are unclear. Calls to several agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Labor were not returned.

A phone operator at the trucking company said no one was available for comment.

Beam Brothers Trucking has been in business in the Shenandoah Valley for more than 80 years. The company was founded in 1932 when Herman Beam and Bertie Mundy Beam purchased a truck and began hauling flour for White Star Mill in Staunton, according to a history of the company found on the firm’s website.

Beam Brothers later expanded into the hay business and eventually supplied hay to Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus, according to its website.

In 1995, the company was awarded a USPS contract.
