Valley Youth Encouraged To Take Part

Posted: March 15, 2013

HARRISONBURG — Optional kindergarten registration through Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley, a nonprofit focused on helping children enter school prepared, is now open.

Children in Rockingham, Augusta, Page and Shenandoah counties and in Harrisonburg, Staunton and Waynesboro who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 are encouraged to participate in the early registration.

According to a press release, registering early for kindergarten can help parents and children get questions answered about entering school and provides school divisions with accurate numbers of incoming kindergarteners for planning purposes.

To register a child, families must bring the child’s birth certificate, proof of residency, immunizations and physical forms. Social Security cards are also recommended.
