Local Vineyard Hosts Events To Mark July 4

Despite the Tuscan-style architecture at CrossKeys Vineyard in Mount Crawford, the winery is hosting an all-American celebration July Fourth.

“We’re doing an all-American cookout between 12 and 5 p.m.,” said Katie Rosenberg, the event manager at CrossKeys. “It’s a great thing for families to do in the afternoon.”

Lunch will be prepared by Mike Goff, the vineyard’s first executive chef, who was hired in November. As a former owner of The Dining Room restaurant in Staunton, Rosenberg said Goff is “pretty popular” with local visitors.

“[Hiring a chef] has given us a lot more control over quality and service,” she added.

For lunch, guests will be served one-third rack of barbecue ribs, a roasted chicken quarter, coleslaw, baked beans and corn on the cobb. Apple and peach pie will be provided for dessert.

Entertainment will be provided, as well, with musician Jim Counter performing from 2-5 p.m.

“He plays a lot of classic rock, blues, and Americana type of music,” remarked Rosenberg.

Additionally, wine will be available for purchase. To compliment the meal, Rosenberg suggested trying Meritage, Joy Red or chardonnay.

CrossKeys Vineyard in Mount Crawford will host a Fourth of July Celebration Cookout from noon-5 p.m., with music starting at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
