Heist Suspect Nabbed
WEYERS CAVE - Police arrested a man Friday they say is responsible for a bank robbery earlier this week in Weyers Cave.
Aaron B. Rummel, 31, of Weyers Cave, is charged with armed robbery in connection with the Tuesday heist of Carter Bank and Trust, according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
Rummel is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona, according to a press release issued Friday evening by the sheriff’s office.
It could not be immediately confirmed what led police to Rummel or the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Police say Rummel entered the bank, located at 81 Franklin St., at about 3 p.m.
Sgt. Brian Jenkins previously said that the suspect delivered a “threat of a weapon, but none was displayed” during the robbery.
The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash on foot.
No further information about Rummel or the robbery was available on Friday evening.
Tuesday’s was the second bank robbery in Weyers Cave in the past year.
George R. Gaunt of Louisville, Ky., faces charges related to the October robbery of Weyers Cave United Bank, which sits directly across from the street from Carter Bank and Trust, in addition to subsequent robberies in Iowa and Minnesota.
The investigation into Tuesday’s robbery is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 245-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 800-322-2017.
