Posted: October 5, 2013

HARRISONBURG — Shoshannah “Susan” Nambi, a Jewish woman from Uganda, will speak Oct. 6 at Beth El Congregation in Harrisonburg.

The event will start at 4 p.m. at 830 Old Furnace Road.

Nambi works with RAIN-UGANDA, which performs HIV testing, as well as cervical and breast cancer screening for hundreds of women in Uganda. She is part of the 1,000-member Abayudaya Jewish community in that country.

She is the organization’s HIV counselor and accountant. She has also worked as a health center administrator in a nearby city.

Nambi will share her knowledge of women’s issues in her home country and sing in Hebrew and Luganda, the main language spoken in Uganda.

Beth El Congregation, James Madison University Hillel Counsellorship and Trinity Presbyterian Church are sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.
