Snively Concert Cancelled

The faculty recital, featuring clarinetist David Snively, an adjunct instructor of music at Bridgewater College, and Waynesboro String Quartet members Susan Black, Lianne Campbell, Brian Helmke and Connie Gee, has been cancelled.

District Recognition Dinner To Be Held

The Boy Scouts of America’s Massanutten District of the Stonewall Jackson Area Council, which encompasses Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and Pendleton County, W.Va., will host its annual District Recognition Dinner at 6:30 p.m. March 22 at the First Presbyterian Church on Court Square in Harrisonburg.


Each year, the Massanutten District celebrates the past year’s accomplishments by recognizing individuals who stand out among all others in their service to the youth of the community.


Massanutten District will also recognize 2013 Eagle Scouts. The scouts will receive honors for having earned the highest scouting rank.


Other honors include the District Award of Merit, Scouter and Cub Scouter of the Year, the Unit Leader Award of Merit, District Chairman’s Award and District Commissioner’s Award.


Greg Liskey, District Camping chairman and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 72, will be recognized for completing his Wood Badge training, the highest level of adult training offered by BSA.


The public is invited. The meal will be made by Dan Dreelin, Council Training chairman and district resident chef.

BC To Host Gospel Extravaganza

Bridgewater College will present a Gospel Extravaganza at 3 p.m. March 22 in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College.


The concert includes the Bridgewater College Lift Your Voice Gospel Choir and James Madison University’s Contemporary Gospel Singers. Also featured will be Joyce Garrett and the Gospel group Roderick Giles and Grace.


Bridgewater College’s Lift Your Voice Gospel Choir is under the direction of Dr. John McCarty, assistant professor of music. Student directors include Rianna Hill, junior English and communication studies double major, and Justin Bartlett, a sophomore liberal studies major, both of Richmond.


The program is free and open to the public.

Pageant Contestants Sought

The MS Virginia Senior America Pageant organization is seeking contestants.


Orientations will be held April 16 in Arlington and April 23 in Staunton. To register or for information, contact State Director Annmarie Pittman at (703) 549-7012 or email at msvirginiasenioramerica@gmail.com; registartion deadline is April 7.

The Virginia pageant will be held July 19 in Staunton; the winner will represent Virginia at the 2014 MS Senior America Pageant in the fall in Atlantic City, N.J.

Calendar Photo Contest Underway

The 2014 Farm Credit of the Virginias Calendar Photo Contest is underway. Members, employees and supporters of Farm Credit of the Virginias can submit photos online until June 30.


Participants are allowed to submit as many as three photos that have been taken within the Farm Credit of the Virginias territory. All photo files must be at least 1MB in size.


The top 12 photos will be featured in the 2015 Farm Credit of the Virginias calendar — the top three photos will receive gift cards valued at $100, $75 and $50, respectively.

Winners will also receive three copies of the calendar.
