Stephen Bennett To Perform At Court Square Theater
Multi-instrumentalist Stephen Bennett of Gloucester County has never put his music in a particular genre, nor does he plan to do so.
“It doesn’t necessarily fit neatly into one category,” explained Bennett, who picked up his first instrument, a harp guitar, when he was 11 years old.
“[My music] always sounds like a mix of [genres], but ultimately, it’s just music.”
The master of 17 instruments, Bennett has toured as a musician for the past four decades, performing in Japan, Australia, and Canada, as well as “all over Europe,” he says.
Bennett will bring his talents to Harrisonburg at 8 p.m. April 25 at Court Square Theater.
He has established himself as one of the most recognizable harp guitarists in the music industry, releasing 24 albums, headlining a number of guitar orchestras, while gracing the cover of several international guitar magazines along the way.
Bennett’s shows blend original material with guitar-versions of popular compositions.
“I may throw in some pop tunes or a Beatles tune, you never know,” teased Bennett. “I don’t decide that until the night of the performance.”
And Bennett is no stranger to Court Square Theater; he performed to a near sold out crowd in 2012, according to theater manager Michael Weaver.
“Stephen is a master of the harp guitar and an extraordinary composer,” added Weaver. “We’re happy to bring back his talent to the intimate stage of Court Square Theater.”
“If anybody likes guitar music at all, they’ll have a good time [at the show],” added Bennett.
“I’m certain of it.”
