Shultz Theatre Announces Fall Classes

The Shultz Theatre has announced its schedule of fall classes to be held at 9257 N. Congress St. in New Market. Classes, which will be taught by Wendi Black, include the following.


■ Scene Study for Actors ages 15 and older, for actors with onstage experience, from 4:15-6 p.m. Tuesdays from Sept. 16-Nov. 18. Cost is $125 per student; six student minimum.


■ Acting for Ages 10 and older for students at all levels, will include class exercises, improvisation games, small scene-writing and more, from 4:15-6 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 17-Nov.19. Class minimum of 6 students. Cost is $125 per student; six student minimum.


■ Acting for Youth ages 7-10 for aspiring theater artists, includes improvs, exercises, music and text, from 4:15-6 p.m. Thursdays from Sept. 18-Nov. 20. Cost is $125 per student; minimum six students.


Above classes will culminate in a performance showcase at 7 p.m. Dec. 9.


■ Playwriting Development for writers of all levels, six sessions span five months, writers will complete a one-act to be showcased Feb. 6. Class to be held Sept. 12, Oct. 3, Oct. 17, Nov. 9, Dec. 19, 2014, and Jan. 9, 2015. Cost is $100 per student; minimum four students, maximum six.

Advancing The Arts Grants Accepted

Applications for the 2014-15 Advancing the Arts Grant are now being accepted.


Grants are available for artists and art educators working in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County benefiting projects running Nov. 1, 2014-May 20, 2015.


Awards range $250-1,000, depending on the scale of the project and the proposal.


Applications and information are available at valleyarts.org/grants.


Deadline for applications is Sept. 12. The Arts Council of the Valley panel will review submissions Sept. 15-Oct. 1. Recipients will be notified in writing Oct. 2-10. Projects will be conducted Nov. 1, 2014-May 31, 2015. Final reports are due June 5, 2015.
