Annual Tri-County Fair Under Way

Continues Through Saturday In Petersburg, W.Va.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — For 94 years, the Tri-County Fair has been a cherished homecoming in Grant, Hardy and Pendleton counties showcasing the best in homemade, homegrown and family fun.

The 2014 fair, which spotlights local agriculture, horticulture and youthful showmanship of livestock, continues through Saturday at the Petersburg Fairgrounds.

Scheduled activities include a calf scramble, art show, lamb/goat costume contest and obstacle course, pet show, pedal-power contest, an antique tractor pull, and sheep rodeo.

General admission to the fairgrounds is free for children 6 and younger; $2 for children age 6 to 12; and $5 for all others.  A season pass, available at the fair office or gates, provides discount admission at $25 for the entire fair.

A shuttle bus service from the Petersburg High School parking area will operate for the public each evening.

Gates open each day at 8 a.m. except Saturday, when they open at 8:30 a.m. Exhibits open Monday through Friday at 4 p.m. and at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Main Exhibit Building; rides open at 7 p.m.

The remaining schedule for this year’s Tri-County Fair is as follows:


8-9:30 a.m.: Check-in Feeder Calf

10 a.m.: Breeding Cattle Show

1 p.m.: 4-H/FFA Feeder Calf Show

3 p.m.: 4-H/FFA Beef Showmanship

8 p.m.: Queen Scholarship Pageant, stage


10 a.m.: 4-H/FFA Market Lamb Show

1 p.m.: Breeding Sheep Show

6:30 p.m.: Sheep Rodeo

8 p.m.: Montgomery Gentry, large stage

10 p.m.: Release Breeding Cattle and Sheep.


7-10 a.m.: Check-in Market Hogs and Goats

9 a.m.: 4-H/FFA Sheep Showmanship

2 p.m.: 4-H/FFA Market Goat Showmanship

6 p.m.: 2014 Tri-County Parade

7 p.m.: Cornhole Tournament

8 p.m.: The Steve Smith Band, stage

9 p.m.: Calf Scramble

9 p.m.: Awards, parade winners


10 a.m.: 4-H/FFA Market Goat Show

5 p.m.: 4-H/FFA Market Steer Show

6 p.m.: Pedal Power Contest

7 p.m.: 4-H/FFA Market Hog Show

7 p.m.: The Magic of Carl Michael, stage


9 a.m.: 4-H/FFA Swine Showmanship

2 p.m.: 4-H/FFA Skill-a-Thon/Ag Olympics

4 p.m.: Pet Show

5 p.m.: Antique Tractor Pull

6 p.m.: Good Ole Country Games in livestock area
