Wilmington Beats JMU, 6-4

HARRISONBURG – Dillon Bass went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs, including the go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning, to lead North Carolina-Wilmington to a 6-4 victory over James Madison in a Colonial Athletic Association baseball game Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Seahawks improved to 12-13 overall, 1-1 in the CAA; the Dukes fell to 9-15, 1-1.

Ty McFarland went 2-for-4 with a home run, and Tyler Gregory went 1-for-4 with a home run for JMU. It was McFarland’s seventh homer of the season and Gregory’s first. Chris Huffman (3-3) took the loss for the Dukes after giving up four earned runs and 12 hits in seven innings.

Sunday’s series finale was rained out and will not be made up. JMU and UNCW split 1-1.

Charleston Softball 4, JMU 2: Hope Klicker struck out eight, and Kelsey Hodgson had two RBIs to lead the College of Charleston to a 4-2 victory over James Madison in a Colonial Athletic Association softball game Sunday in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The Cougars improved to 24-12 overall, 4-2 in the CAA; the Dukes fell to 23-11, 4-2.

Catherine Clavin had two hits and Jailyn Ford had an RBI for JMU, which blew a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

JMU and Charleston split a doubleheader Saturday, with the Dukes winning the first game 5-3 and Charleston winning the second 3-2.
