Another Round Of ‘Hope’ On Tap
Second Walk For Suicide Awareness On Saturday
HARRISONBURG — Local colleges and universities will heighten awareness of depression and suicide with the second annual Walk for Hope on Saturday.
Students, faculty and staff from Blue Ridge Community College, Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University and James Madison University and the schools’ presidents will participate in the event from 9 a.m. to noon at JMU’s Godwin Field.
The event is free and open to the public.
“Suicide prevention and depression awareness are key concerns for our campuses,” the area school presidents said in a joint statement. “We fully support initiatives that draw attention to these pressing mental health issues and are committed to providing support to the people affected by them.”
The event includes music, speakers, refreshments, art and other activities.
The event is sponsored by the Austin Frazier Memorial Fund in memory of a JMU student who committed suicide in 2009.
