Blazers Lose 1-0 In Final

CROZET — Sarah Grupp scored the game’s only goal in the 76th minute, leading Western Albemarle High School to a 1-0 win over Spotswood in the Conference 29 girls’ soccer championship game Saturday.

The No. 1 seed Warriors improved to 16-3; the fourth-seeded Blazers dropped to 8-7-4 and will play at Liberty in the 3A West region quarterfinals today at 5:30 p.m.

Senior goalkeeper Catelyn Moore made three saves for SHS.

Gallello Propels Braves Past Turks

STAUNTON — Second baseman Derek Gallello (UNC-Charlotte) went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead Staunton to a 6-5 win over Harrisonburg in a Valley League game Sunday.

The Braves improved to 1-1; the Turks dropped to 1-2.

Thomas Spitz (Wingate) and Eric Kalbfleisch (UNC-Greensboro) each had three hits for the Turks.

Express 8, Turks 5: Designated hitter Joe Camp (Concord University) hit a three-RBI single in a four-run ninth inning to lead Strasburg to an 8-5 win over Harrisonburg in a Valley League game Saturday night in Harrisonburg.

Four Turks had multiple hits, led by Matt Rose (Georgia State), who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
