Furman Men’s Soccer 1, JMU 0: Tyler Peoples scored the game-winning goal with 5:35 remaining in double overtime as Furman defeated James Madison 1-0 Friday night in a men’s soccer game at University Park.

The Paladins improved to 7-1-0; the Dukes dropped to 3-3-1.

Furman, ranked No. 17 by Top Drawer Soccer, entered the match having scored 16 goals in the previous five games. Making his first career start, JMU goalie Bill Groben saved three shots.

North Cross Soccer 3, EMHS 0: Jack Holley, Jonty Chimbera and Christopher Pollock each scored goals as North Cross defeated Eastern Mennonite High School, 3-0, Friday night in a soccer game at EMHS.

JMU’s Baseball Class Highly Ranked: James Madison’s baseball team has appeared in Collegiate Baseball’s annual recruiting-class rankings for the seventh time in eight seasons. Collegiate Baseball ranked the Top 40 recruiting classes and listed 62 others  — including JMU’s — as the best in the nation.

JMU’s incoming class includes two players drafted in June: outfielder Ky Parrott (Herndon) in the 26th round by the Milwaukee Brewers and outfielder/first baseman Logan Quimuyog (Lynn Haven, Fla.) in the 39th round by the New York Mets.
