HARRISONBURG – Senior Derek Hess finished in 18 minutes, 48 seconds to lead Spotswood High School as the Trailblazers won a cross country tri-meet Wednesday at Massanetta Springs with a pair of one-two finishes.

SHS freshman English Jackson and sophomore Allison Lanoue placed first and second in the girls’ race in 22:31 and 22:32, respectively.

Parker Kenee placed second for the Blazers in the boys’ race in 19:05.

Spotswood’s undefeated girls’ team topped Fort Defiance 26-30, while the boys beat Fort 27-48. Broadway’s boys placed third with 51 points and did not field a full girls’ team.


Armstrong Leads BHS Golf
 
Broadway High School’s Ocean Armstrong shot a four-under-par 32 to take medalist honors as the Gobblers finished tied for second place with Harrisonburg in a Valley District mini meet Wednesday at Shenvalee Golf Course in New Market.

Fort Defiance shot a 154 to win the meet. Broadway and Harrisonburg both had 158s.


JMU Men’s Soccer 6, VMI 1
 
Josh Grant scored two goals in the second half to lead James Madison to a 6-1 win over VMI in a non-conference men’s soccer game Wednesday in Harrisonburg.

The Dukes improved to 3-1; the Keydets dropped 0-3-1.


Averett Men’s Soccer 2, Bridgewater 1
 
Goalie Michael Decker had six saves to lead Averett to a 2-1 win over Bridgewater College in a non-conference men’s soccer game Wednesday at BC.

The Cougars improved to 1-3-1; the Eagles dropped to 2-3.


Lebanon Valley Men’s Soccer 3, EMU 1
 
Eastern Mennonite University’s David Hooley scored the game’s first goal, but Lebanon Valley rallied for three straight goals to defeat the Royals 3-1 in a non-conference men’s soccer game Wednesday in Park View.

Lebanon Valley improved to 4-1; the Royals dropped to 2-3.


Averett Women’s Soccer 2, Bridgewater 1
 
Melanie Waters scored the lone goal as Averett defeated Bridgewater College 2-1 in a non-conference women’s soccer game Wednesday in Danville.

The Cougars improved to 2-3; the Eagles dropped to 2-3.
