HARRISONBURG
— Sophomore forward Alesha Melendez had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead Eastern Mennonite High School to a 68-22 win over Carlisle in a first- round Blue Ridge Conference tournament girls’ basketball game Tuesday.

The No. 3 Flames improved to 19-5 and will play at No. 2 Miller in the semifinals on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.; Carlisle finished at 5-18.

“It was an all-around game by our whole team — points, rebounds, assists very spread out, which is a good sign going into the rest of the playoffs,” EMHS coach Jolene Kratz said.

Junior forward Emily DePoy scored 14 and freshman guard Emily Klamut had 12 for the Flames, who outscored Carlisle 25-2 in the second quarter.

North Cross Boys 60, EMHS 37: Junior forward Matt Daughty scored 12 points to lead North Cross to a 60-37 win over Eastern Mennonite High School in the first round of the Virginia Independent Conference boys’ basketball tournament Tuesday in Roanoke.

The second-seeded Raiders improved to 16-5; the seventh-seeded Flames finished at 5-20.

Pendleton Boys 72, SVA 34: Junior forward Evan Arrington had 18 points and six rebounds to lead Pendleton County High School to a 72-34 win over Shenandoah Valley Academy in a non-conference boys’ basketball game Tuesday in Franklin, W.Va.

The Cougars improved to 6-13; the Stars’ record was not available.

Senior guard Logan Raines had 11 points and junior guard Luke Yokum had 10 for PCHS.
