Black, EMHS Roll

WASHINGTON, Va. — Junior guard Alex Black scored a career-high 23 points to lead Eastern Mennonite High School to a 58-15 win over Rappahannock County in a non-conference girls’ basketball game Tuesday in Washington, Va.

The Flames improved to 7-3; the Panthers’ record was unavailable.

Sophomore forward Alesha Melendez added nine points for EMHS, and junior point guard Lauren D’Agostino had seven assists and five steals.

Spotswood Girls 54, R.E. Lee 30: Senior point guard Bailey Williams had 14 points and five assists to lead host Spotswood High School to a 54-30 win over R.E. Lee in a Valley District girls’ basketball game Tuesday.

The Trailblazers — who opened on a 26-0 run — improved to 12-0 overall, 4-0 in the district; the Lee Ladies fell to 3-9, 0-5.

Junior forward Tayler Dodson had eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists for SHS.

Sophomore forward Katelyn Corbett led Lee with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Stuarts Draft Girls 39, Stonewall Jackson 27: Katelyn Bergey scored 14 points to lead host Stuarts Draft High School to a 39-27 win over Stonewall Jackson in a Shenandoah District girls’ basketball game Tuesday.

The Cougars improved to 7-4 overall, 4-2 in the district; the Generals fell to 4-8, 2-4.

Rhea Jett led Stonewall with seven points.



Marlins Beat BC, 80-68

BRIDGEWATER — DJ Woodmore scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds to lead Virginia Wesleyan to an 80-68 win over Bridgewater College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday.

The Marlins improved to 8-4 overall, 2-0 in the ODAC; the Eagles fell to 8-5, 2-2.

Chris Astorga added 21 points for VWC, which used a 9-0 run in the second half to open a 16-point lead.

Ed Reddick led BC with 20 points, shooting 10-of-16 from the floor. Tavis Stapleton had 17 points, Ronnie Thomas had 15 and Kenneth Waugh had 10.
