Streaks Beat Handley, 2-0
– Sophomore forward Luis Vargas had a goal and an assist to lead Harrisonburg High School to a 2-0 win over Handley in a non-district boys’ soccer match Thursday.

The Blue Streaks improved to 2-1; the Judges dropped to 0-3.

Sophomore goalkeeper Evan Dotas made seven saves for his first career shutout and sophomore forward Jackson Taylor scored a goal for the Streaks.

Fort Defiance Boys 2, Broadway 1: Freshman forward Ian Thibodeaux scored two goals, and senior keeper Todd Early made a spectacular diving save with about eight minutes left to prevent  overtime and help Fort Defiance High School to a 2-1 win over Broadway in a Valley District boys’ soccer game Thursday at BHS.

The Gobblers fell to 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the district; the Indians’ record was unavailable.

Junior forward Abel Uribe scored BHS’s lone goal off an assist from freshman midfielder Brandon Hylton.

The Flames improved to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in the conference; the Celtics’ record was unavailable.

Senior forward Rebekah Hertzler added two assists for EMHS.
