Barn Burns Near New Market

Posted: January 23, 2013

Several fire departments responded to a blaze Tuesday night in the 400 block of Cardinal Road, just north of New Market in Shenandoah County. The fire, which started about 6:30 p.m., destroyed the barn but the 30 cattle inside were saved, according to owner Jason Eaton. Eaton said he did lose two wagons and some hay in the barn, which was insured. With the barn fully engulfed in flames, firefighters, who were on scene for about three hours, focused on saving nearby buildings, including Eaton’s home across the road. No injuries were reported and the fire’s cause had yet to be determined. (Photo by Alex Rohr / DN-R)
