David Bushman, dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathetmatics at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., will be the next president of Bridgewater College.
The college’s Board of Trustees announced a close to its presidential search Thursday, with the unanimous selection of Bushman. He will take over the duties of the president on June 1.
"Our search has led us to the next great leader of Bridgewater College,” said Judge G. Steven Agee, Bridgewater trustee and chair of the search committee said in a statement. “We are confident that Dr. Bushman is a man with the integrity, leadership skills and academic credentials needed to guide our college into the future.”
George Cornelius, Bridgewater’s eighth president, publicly announced in March 2012 plans to let his contract expire at the end of the school year, after less than two years with the college.
In his only public statement, Cornelius said he wanted to “conclude the efforts I've started on campus and then focus my efforts elsewhere.”
Since Cornelius’ departure, Roy Ferguson Jr., Bridgewater College's executive vice president, has served as interim president.
A nationwide presidential search began in June.
