Students at Linville-Edom Elementary School were evacuated this afternoon after a note with a bomb threat was found in the school.

All students and school employees are safe, according to Carol Fenn, superintendent of Rockingham County Public Schools. Students may be picked up by parents or guardians at Lindale Mennonite Church, but buses will also run from there on a normal departure schedule this afternoon.

Fenn would not release information about what was stated in the bomb threat or where it was found, saying it is a police matter.

Mike Armstrong, the county's deputy fire marshal, said a preliminary, visual sweep of the building did not turn up anything amiss. Bomb-sniffing dogs will search the building, Armstrong said.

Classes were canceled for the remainder of the day. Fenn expects school to open on time Wednesday morning.
