HARRISONBURG — An educator at Blue Ridge Community College has received national recognition for his efforts in teaching aviation maintenance.
Fred Dyen, assistant professor of aviation maintenance technology at the Weyers Cave school, was awarded the 2013 Ivan D. Livi Outstanding Educator of the Year Award by the Aviation Technician Education Council, according to a news release.
Last year, Dyen led BRCC to become the first college in the U.S. to get approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to start a pilot program for teaching aviation maintenance technology by distance learning.
The college’s aviation maintenance technology program was established in 2007 at nearby Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.
