BREAKING: 16-Year-Old Boy Killed In Tractor Crash
Police Say Farm Vehicle Collided With Car West Of Dayton
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story indicated the crash occured in Ottobine. The incident happened closer to the Montezuma area in Rockingham County west of Dayton.
MONTEZUMA — A 16-year-old Dayton boy died this afternoon when a tractor and car collided.
Emergency crews responded to the intersection of West Dry River Road and Honey Run Lane west of Dayton at about 5 p.m.
First Sgt. Frank Pyanoe of the Virginia State Police said a tractor pulled out from Honey Run Lane and struck a 1990 Toyota Celica driving east on West Dry River Road.
Police say there were three people on the tractor, which overturned.
The 16-year-old was a passenger on the tractor, and he died at the scene. His name could not be immediately confirmed.
A 17-year-old boy riding on the tractor was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville with non-life-threatening injuries, police say.
The tractor’s driver, Wilson Ray Showalter, 18, of Dayton, was not injured, police say.
The car was driven by Mary Martin, 18, of Dayton. Police say she was not injured.
A 17-year-old girl riding in Martin’s car was taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
