HARRISONBURG — City police say a car was stolen from the parking lot of a fitness center and later found on fire Wednesday night.
Police did not offer more details about the auto theft at the Sentara RMH Wellness Center, 2500 Wellness Drive, but the crime comes after a series of vehicle break-ins last week.
Harrisonburg police have responded to several theft complaints at the fitness center. Police say that in some cases, the suspect or suspects swiped the victims’ keys from their lockers.
Police say it’s unclear how many vehicles were broken into, but electronics and miscellaneous items were reported stolen.
Police have at least one suspect in the thefts, but the case remains under investigation. Police believe the break-ins and Wednesday’s auto theft might be connected.
Police will release more information about the case later today, they say.
Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call Harrisonburg Crime Solvers at 574-5050. Tipsters may text “HPD” plus the tip to CRIMES (274637).
