College Baseball Roundup: Dukes Lose Twice

CLEMSON, S.C. — Powered by two RBIs each from sophomore right fielder Steven Duggar and senior second baseman Steve Wilkerson, Clemson beat James Madison 9-4 in a college baseball game Saturday.

The Tigers, ranked 26th by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, improved to 27-19; the Dukes fell to 15-29.

Clemson rallied past Madison with a seven-run eighth inning.

Madison dropped a 2-1 decision earlier in the day to UNLV (28-15), which prevailed on senior first baseman Patrick Armstrong’s walk-off RBI single.

Senior third baseman Ty McFarland and freshman left fielder Josh Wyatt were the lone JMU players to post multi-hit games in either loss. McFarland did so in the opener, Wyatt in the second game.

BC Sweeps Wesley: Tyler Slanovec, Dillon Via and Justin Petock combined for four innings of two-hit, scoreless relief and Bridgewater College edged Wesley 3-1 to cap a sweep of a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday in Dover, Del.

The Eagles, now one win away from matching last year’s single-season record, improved to 33-12; the Wolverines fell to 17-19.

Sophomore second baseman Cavin Clyde drove in all of Bridgewater’s runs to key its 3-2 victory in the opener.

The Eagles won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship last week and will play in the NCAA‚Äątournament beginning in mid-May.
