Couple Accused Of Endangering 13-Month-Old

Police Say Child Suffered ‘Not Accidental’ Injuries

Posted: January 9, 2013

An Edinburg couple was arrested on charges of child endangerment after police say a 13-month-old child in their home was found with injuries that appear to be “not accidental.”

Maj. Scott Proctor with the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office said Social Services reported the case to law enforcement on Dec. 4.

The accused, Stephanie Michelle Lewis, 27, and Vincent Leigh Jones Jr., 30, were the primary caregivers of the child, Proctor said. Lewis, he said, is the child’s mother.

“Because of the nature of the investigation, we are not releasing what the injuries are,” Proctor said. “The forensic examination did determine that they were not accidental.”

Lewis and Jones were arrested Dec. 17 on one count each of felony child endangerment.

Proctor said that following Jones’ incarceration, he required treatment for undisclosed self-inflicted injuries and was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church. Police declined to elaborate on the nature of the injuries or how they occurred.

On Dec. 20, Jones attempted to leave the hospital, assaulting the Shenandoah County deputies who were guarding him, Proctor said.

Jones now faces additional charges in Fairfax County.

He is being held without bond at Shenandoah County Jail. Lewis remains incarcerated on a secured bond.

Both are scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on Jan. 31.
