Crash Leads To Outage, Road Closure

City Woman Charged With DUI After Wreck Into Pole

Posted: February 11, 2013

HARRISONBURG — Police say a drunk driver crashed her car into a utility pole near Elkton early Saturday morning, resulting in a four-hour power outage for more than 60 residents and a detour for motorists on U.S. 340.

A 2005 Kia driven by Paige Traglia Dunkin, 19, of Harrisonburg, struck a pole on U.S. 340, about a mile south of Elkton around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, according to State Police Sgt. Les Tyler.

Dunkin has been charged with driving under the influence, Tyler said.

The road was closed between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. so Dominion Power could repair the pole, according to Sandy Myers a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Staunton District.

Dominion had to turn off the power to about 64 customers during that same time so utility workers could safely repair the tower.
