At first, I was puzzled that Mike Muterspaugh could disagree so strongly about what’s is wrong in America (“We Rejected Schmookler,” Oct. 19). His attack on me is so long on pronouncements and so short on facts, I thought he must be driven by ideology, regardless of reality. Then I realized we must live in different countries.
Where Muterspaugh lives, the “have nots” are ruling the “haves,” the danger being that the “mob” is too powerful. I live in an America where power is concentrated in the hands of an ever wealthier few. Where Muterspaugh lives, state power transfers wealth to the many to bribe them for votes.
In my country, corruption runs in the opposite direction. Lobbyists for the mighty write the rules, stacking the deck in their favor.
