Cub Scouts Camp Moves To New Site

Organizers Say Hillandale Park Has More Space For Activities

Posted: June 16, 2014

HARRISONBURG — The Stonewall Jackson Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America will host its Cub Scouts’ Massanutten District day camp at Hillandale Park this year for the first time.

The camp has been held at Westover Park in the city in previous years, but the new location will offer a flatter, less hilly and rocky layout and more space for activities, organizers say.

The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 23 through June 27. Boys will be able to participate in BB-gun shooting, archery, crafts and other activities.

This year, the Cub Scouts’ theme is “heroes,” according to camp director Charles King. Different heroes, such as firefighters, police officers and troops, will serve as guest speakers each day of the camp to share stories of their professions with the boys.

Boys must be registered with the Boy Scouts of America to participate in the summer camp, and may do so until the morning of the first day of camp. Registration for the camp costs $100 per child.

Boys in grades one through five are eligible.

Hillandale Park will remain open to the public during the week of the day camp, which will take place primarily in shelters 10, 11 and 12.
