The United States remains overly dependent on foreign oil. These trends will continue if the right policies are not put into practice.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe has promised to cut offshore oil drilling, curb coal-fired power plants and maintain a wrongheaded ban on uranium mining. He has been invisible in opposing president Obama’s “War on Coal” and said he never wants another coal plant built.
In contrast, Republican candidate Ken Cuccinelli has proposed an all-of-the-above energy solution for Virginia. He’ll expand the development of oil, clean coal, and natural gas as well as sustainable alternatives like nuclear, solar and wind energy.
Mr. Cuccinelli’s energy policy is more expansive and practical than his opponent’s. If we want to cut our power bill, ease the pain at the pump and keep our economy growing, we need a sound energy policy that puts all of our resources to work.
