Dukes Make CAA Tourney
NEWARK, Del. — Junior pitcher Patrick Toohers carried a shutout into the eighth inning and James Madison held on for a 7-5 win over Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association college baseball game Saturday, clinching the No. 6 seed in the CAA tournament that begins Wednesday in Wilmington, N.C.
JMU improved to 17-34 overall, 8-12 in the CAA; the Blue Hens fell to 24-25, 10-10.
The Dukes will face host and third-seeded UNC-Wilmington at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Toohers held the Blue Hens to five hits and no runs in seven-plus innings, exiting after a leadoff base hit in the eighth inning. Delaware rallied for five runs in the eighth, four off of JMU reliever Michael Evans. Mark Gunst picked up his first save of the season, pitching the final 1 1/3.
Senior right fielder Tyler Gregory led JMU at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
