Hall, JMU Hold Off Tigers

TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore guard Precious Hall scored 21 points, matching her career high of four 3-pointers for the fourth time, as James Madison held on to beat Towson 62-57 in a Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball game Thursday night at SECU Arena.

The Dukes improved to 12-4 overall, 2-0 in the CAA; the Tigers dropped to 8-8, 2-1.

Towson’s Markell Smith missed a potential game-tying free throw with 1:12 remaining, JMU’s Nikki Newman made a layup 19 seconds later and the Dukes’ Kirby Burkholder nailed a pair of foul shots to cap the game’s scoring.

Senior guard Tanisha McTiller, who was named the CAA Co-Player of the Week on Monday along with Burkholder, led Towson with a game-high 24 points on 10 field goals.

Junior forward Toia Giggetts added 14 for Madison, and Nikki Newman tied career highs with eight assists and five blocks, including a key stop to preserve the lead late in the game.

JMU outscored the Tigers 36-20 inside the paint and snapped Towson’s four-game winning streak.
