HARRISONBURG — The jury trial scheduled today for a former Page County teacher accused of having sex with a student will be postponed.

Christopher Ritchie Jr., of Harrisonburg, who goes by his nickname, “C.J.,” appeared in Rockingham County Circuit Court on Monday with his attorney, Walter Green, for a motion to delay the matter.

A new trial date will be set today instead.

Ritchie, 23, is charged with two felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory position. He was a Spanish teacher at Page County High School in November when he met a 16-year-old male student at Valley Mall in Harrisonburg, brought the student back to the teacher’s city home and then had sex, according to court records.

Ritchie is no longer employed by the school system. He confessed to the allegations, police have said.

The investigation began when a school employee suspicious of Ritchie went to police.

Ritchie is free on bond from Rockingham County Jail.
