People Should Rule Government
“Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.” This Ronald Reagan quote accurately sums up Andy Schmookler’s viewpoints in the Open Forum on Aug. 16.
His sweeping generalities throughout the piece prop up his weak arguments.
The Founders studied governments throughout history and determined that America would be the exception — that people would rule the government, not the other way around.
The office of the president is an honorable one, but when we are told untruths — “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” — and legislation is passed with “a phone and a pen,” distrust and distain smolder. No wonder his approval rating is the lowest of any president since WWII.
Voter ID? Seems that people who need assistance from the government can come up with ID, but to vote? No — that’s too difficult.
