Hammer Certified Against Goodlatte
HARRISONBURG — The Virginia State Board of Elections has confirmed Libertarian Will Hammer as a candidate to face 6th District Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke, in November.
Hammer, 27, works at Rosetta Stone in Harrisonburg and lives
in Staunton. He needed to turn in 1,000 signatures of registered voters in the district by last Tuesday to qualify.
“I will fight the two party system that has long been broken,” Hammer said in a press release. “The only special interest I have is for the people and their liberties. I want to work with people and make coalitions to advance issues that are affecting Americans.”
Goodlatte seeks a 12th two-year term in Congress this fall.
The Virginia State Board of Elections is still working to certify another potential candidate, Elaine Hildebrandt of Halifax County.
Hammer’s fellow Libertarian, Robert Sarvis, is also waiting word on whether he qualified to run for U.S. Senate against incumbent Mark Warner, a Democrat, and Republican nominee Ed Gillespie.
Rose Mansfield, an executive assistant for the board of elections, said she was hopeful to have all candidates’ paperwork reviewed by Thursday.
