Posted: June 30, 2014

HARRISONBURG — Augusta County Supervisor Marshall Pattie on Monday announced his candidacy for the 24th District in the Virginia Senate.

Pattie will seek the GOP nomination for the seat, challenging Sen. Emmett Hanger, R-Mount Solon.

Pattie is a Staunton resident and a management professor at James Madison University. He was elected to the Board of Supervisors as an independent in 2011, his first term in office.

Pattie is a former chairman of the Augusta County Democratic Committee.

Hanger is finishing his fifth four-year term representing the 24th District in the Senate. He last faced an intra-party challenge in 2007, when he defeated Lexington businessman Scott Sayre with 53 percent of the vote.

The district includes most of southeastern Rockingham County.
