HARRISONBURG — Kevin Rose has been elected chairman of the Harrisonburg Electric Commission for 2013. Rose, an attorney with the law firm of Botkin Rose, was elected to the position at the commission’s meeting earlier this month.
He succeeds Doug Light, who was elected secretary for 2013. Other officers for the year include Martha Shifflett, vice-chairman, and Peter Yates, treasurer.
Also at the meeting, Harrisonburg Mayor Ted Byrd swore in Bill Culbreth as the newest member of the commission. Culbreth was appointed by the Harrisonburg City Council to a three-year term earlier this month.
HEC, an independently run, quasi-government utility whose members are appointed by council, provides electricity to more than 20,000 customers in the city, with a breakdown of about 70 percent commercial, 30 percent residential.
Regular commission meetings are held at 7:00 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month at HEC's Operations Center located at 868 N Liberty St, Harrisonburg. Meetings are open to the public.
