Spotswood Girls Defeat Franklin
 
HIGHLAND SPRINGS – Senior guard Bailey Williams had 24 points and seven assists to lift Spotswood High School to a 63-52 win over Franklin County in a girls’ basketball tournament Saturday.

The Blazers improved to 14-0; the Group AAA Eagles dropped to 12-3.

Tayler Dodson had nine points, 16 rebounds and nine assists for Spotswood, which became the first Group AA team to win a game in the tournament since it started three years ago, according to SHS coach Chris Dodson. The tourney invites one Group AA school each year.

Senior forward Miranda Crockett had 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead Franklin County.


Spotswood Boys 64, Fort Defiance 50: Junior guard Tucker McCoy and senior forward Hyrum Weiler each scored 16 points, leading undefeated Spotswood High School to a 64-50 win over Fort Defiance in a Valley District boys’ basketball game Saturday at Fort.

The Trailblazers improved to 15-0 overall, 6-0 in the Valley; the Indians’ record was not available.

Senior guard Adam Frazier led Fort with 10 points.

Turner Ashby Boys 74, Amherst 73, 3OT: Junior guard Taylor Corbin made a jumper at the buzzer in triple overtime, lifting Turner Ashby High School to a 74-73 win over Amherst County in a non-district boys’ basketball game Saturday in Bridgewater.

“It was the best high-school game I’ve ever been involved with in terms of teams just trading blows back and forth,” TA coach Chad Seibert said.

TA junior guard Shane Brown had 24 points, including a 3-pointer near the end of the first overtime that forced another extra period.

Senior forward Michael Bond scored 24 points for the Lancers, who forced the first overtime with a 3 at the horn and the third overtime with a buzzer-beating tip-in.
