Draft Tops Eagles In Baseball, 3-2

STUARTS DRAFT Junior starting pitcher Blake Burgener hit a two-run home run and went the distance to earn the win as Stuarts Draft High School beat East Rockingham 3-2 in a Shenandoah District baseball game Wednesday.

The Cougars improved to 3-10; the Eagles fell to 13-3.

Freshman infielder Dalton McGann went 3-for-4 with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that scored junior outfielder Luke Rodgers, who went 2-for-3.

Junior shortstop Isaac Dean led East Rock, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Turner Ashby Softball 1, James River 0: Sophomore right-hander Natalie Helmick pitched a complete-game two hitter with nine strikeouts and three walks as Turner Ashby High School edged James River 1-0 in a softball game Wednesday in Buchanan.

The Knights improved to 16-0; James River’s record was not available.

Sophomore Kierstin Roadcap’s RBI groundout in the third inning scored Olivia Cook, who reached on a single and advanced two bases on a Cana Davis hit and a passed ball.

Sophomore right fielder Sydney Sheffer had two hits to lead TA.
