Virginia Tech athletics director Jim Weaver said today that former Harrisonburg High School star running back Michael Holmes is "permanently separated from the university."
In a telephone interview, Weaver said the decision came from the university's student judicial board last month and that it's not in his or Frank Beamer's jurisdiction to appeal.
The 20-year-old RB was arrested in the spring after a fight and, last month, was found guilty on a misdemeanor assault & battery charge.
Holmes received only two scholarship offers out of high school. The other was from James Madison University. The DN-R has not been able to reach JMU officials to see if they would consider taking Holmes as a transfer.
