Snow Alters Playoff Dates

HARRISONBURG — Wednesday’s night’s snowstorm has delayed the start of the postseason in high school basketball and indoor track, while pushing back regional wrestling and gymnastics tournaments.

Spotswood, the No. 1 seed in both the boys’ and girls’ Conference 29 basketball tournaments, and the rest of the eight-team league will begin quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The eighth-seeded Western Albemarle girls will play at 6 p.m. at SHS, and the eighth-seeded Broadway boys will face SHS at 7:30 p.m. to cap the doubleheader in Penn Laird. The rest of the C29 boys’ quarterfinals: No. 7 Stuarts Draft at No. 2 Fort Defiance, 7:30 p.m.; No. 6 Monticello at No. 3 Western Albemarle, 7 p.m.; No. 5 Waynesboro at No. 4 Turner Ashby, 6 p.m.

The other C29 girls’ quarterfinals (all games at 6 p.m.): No. 7 Stuarts Draft at No. 2 Monticello; No. 6 Waynesboro at No. 3 Broadway; No. 5 Turner Ashby at No. 4 Fort Defiance.

The boys’ semifinals will be held Thursday at Monticello, while the girls’ semis will be at Stuarts Draft. Monticello will host the championship games on Friday.

In Conference 36, basketball tournaments originally scheduled to begin Friday were moved to Monday. The fourth-seeded East Rock boys will host No. 5 Nelson County at 6:30 p.m. The top-seeded East Rock girls have a bye in the first round.

The C29 and 36 indoor track meets, both rescheduled to be held at Liberty University on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., have been canceled. The top six individuals in C29 on the performance list and top three relay teams will advance to regionals. C36 advacement is to be determined.

The 3A West regional wrestling meet on Monday at Staunton River High School will start at 1:30 p.m. Day 2 of the meet will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The regional meet was originally scheduled for Friday and today.

The 2A East regional wrestling meet at Strasburg will now be a one-day tournament Sunday at 10 a.m. East Rockingham will be among the competitors.

The 2A East swim meet remains scheduled for today at Wakefield at 4 p.m., according to the Shenandoah District website.

The regional gymnastics tournament was moved from Friday to Sunday at 2 p.m. It will still be held at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn.

Harrisonburg swimmers who qualified for the 4A North regional meet are scheduled to compete today at 2 p.m. in Fairfax at George Mason University.
