Traffic backs up in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 on Monday afternoon near mile marker 243, where a tractor-trailer ran off the road hitting a power pole and pulling electric lines across both sides of the highway. The truck continued up an embankment and came to rest on the edge of the Cracker Barrel parking lot. According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, backups on I-81 extended up to eight miles in both directions at the peak of the lane closures. (Photos by Michael Reilly / DN-R)
