JMU 19th In TSN Poll
HARRISONBURG — James Madison’s football team fell far short of expectations this season, but the Dukes still finished in the Top 25 in both Division I-AA polls Monday.
JMU finished No. 19 in The Sports Network’s I-AA survey and No. 21 in the coaches’ poll.
Both polls were released Monday, two days after North Dakota State beat Sam Houston State for the I-AA — or Football Championship Subdivision — title Saturday.
Madison was ranked fifth in TSN’s preseason poll and eighth in the coaches’ preseason poll in August. But the Dukes lost their final two games of the season to finish 7-4 overall, 5-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, missing the playoffs for the third time in four years.
Both polls had six CAA teams, with ODU ranked highest at sixth in each. Other CAA teams in the final ranking were New Hampshire (13th in TSN, 13th in coaches), Villanova (15/16), Towson (17/15) and Richmond (18/18).
North Dakota State topped the poll, followed by Sam Houston State.
