Kudos For Gov. McDonnell On Fighting Crime

Posted: July 16, 2012

Gov. Bob McDonnell has given prosecutors across the great state of Virginia new weapons to fight crime. Under his leadership the former prosecutor knew exactly what was needed to better protect the Commonwealth.

One new law allows prosecutors to seek mandatory minimum life sentences of those adults convicted of the rape, forcible sodomy, or object sexual penetration of a child younger than 13 years of age. These heinous crimes deserve harsh punishments. I applaud Mr. McDonnell’s tough stance.

He knows the destructive role drug abuse plays in our communities. He increased the penalty for repeat drug dealers, allowing enhanced mandatory imprisonment for those convicted of multiple offenses. Our governor backed new laws addressing the plague that is “bath salts,” making it easier for prosecutors to attack and convict dealers in court.

Mr. McDonnell’s commitment to our community and our state is clear. He has kept his promise to support law enforcement and prosecutors in the war on crime. Thank you, Gov. McDonnell.
