Landes Named To Medicaid Reform Commission

Posted: February 27, 2013

HARRISONBURG — Del. Steve Landes, R-Weyers Cave, is one of 10 lawmakers who will oversee the implementation of Medicaid reforms in the state.

The Medicaid Innovation and Reform Commission will review the status of reforms laid out in budget amendments adopted by the General Assembly on Saturday.

A majority of the commission’s 10 members — five senators and five delegates — must agree that reforms meet the budget’s goals for expanding Medicaid to more than 400,000 uninsured Virginians.

Landes said he’s unsure whether the commission will be able to come to an agreement because of delegates’ doubts that Congress can pay for the program, though the federal government has pledged to cover most of the expansion cost through 2021.

Landes is the panel’s only central Valley delegate. The Senate has yet to name members.
