HPD, Educators Help Keep City Schools Safe

Posted: December 29, 2012

School systems and communities across the country had a trying week last week after the horrific and very sad incident in Newtown, Conn. Words cannot describe what that community must be feeling. I know we all join in their pain and hope that the people of Newtown can eventually heal from their sorrow.

Tragic events often bring out the best in others. I want to thank the educators who spent many hours comforting others and addressing unfortunate “rumors” and other incidents that were meant to disturb the school community. I want to greatly thank the Harrisonburg Police for their unwavering commitment to be partners throughout last week and as we move forward.

Together, as a community, we will continue to keep our schools safe and to find other ways to make them even safer.

Have a happy and healthy New Year.

Scott Kizner
Superintendent of Schools
Harrisonburg
