Second Amendment Has Its Limits

Posted: January 4, 2013

I have seen few gun-rights advocates defend their position to soften rather than ban weapons that have no place outside the military.

I guess it is hard to defend Bushmasters and 30-plus ammunition clips when those were the very tools used to massacre 26 innocents.

I believe in the Second Amendment. But I don’t believe that it gives unlimited access to any type of weapons we desire.

If this nation would be safer should everyone be armed to the teeth were true, then America, which has more guns per capita than any other developed nation, would not also have the highest rate of gun violence in the world.

All I would like is for everyone to use a little common sense here and close loopholes that allow anyone to buy a gun without a background check and also ban assault rifles and high-round ammunition clips.

No one wants to disarm law abiding Americans, no matter what the National Rifle Association may scare you into believing.
