While Harrisonburg is putting in the countdown pedestrian signals, I believe they have no idea where to put them. An example of a bad spot is the corner of Evelyn Byrd Avenue and University Boulevard. In all my years, I have never seen anyone attempting to cross the street in any direction here.
A needed place for one is at the corner of South Main and East Bruce streets. This is where the Massanutten library’s main branch is and is a heavy pedestrian area. When crossing East Bruce Street on the library side, one cannot see the traffic lights and so has no idea if it is safe.
It should also be illegal to make a left-hand turn at this intersection on red and the city should also have a crosswalk on the library side over South Main Street.
