Congratulatory Note Calls For Unity
RICHMOND — Gov. Bob McDonnell issued the following statement this morning on the inauguration of President Barack Obama to his second term.
“Today, Maureen and I congratulate President Barack Obama as he begins his second term in office. Last year, this country had a robust and spirited debate about who should lead this nation for the next four years. The people have chosen through the peaceful and fair elections that define our great democracy. Now, it is time for our nation to bridge the divide and work together.
“Our nation faces great and immediate challenges. As we did at the Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast a few weeks ago, we continue to pray for wisdom for the President as he confronts the difficult decisions ahead. It is time to find common ground on the pressing issues confronting our country and work together to provide greater access to the American Dream for everyone. It is time to get our nation’s fiscal house in order for the long term. It is my sincere hope that the President will lead to break through the old, predictable partisan roadblocks to achieve results for the people of this great nation. Today, we join all Virginians in saying God bless President Barack Obama. And God bless America.”
