HARRISONBURG — There will be two separate street closures in Harrisonburg Tuesday and possibly Wednesday, according to an announcement from the city.
From 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesday, West Elizabeth Street, from North High to Liberty streets, will be closed as the city Department of Public Utilities works on a sewer project to slipline the sanitary sewer pipe. Sliplining is a trenchless rehabilitation process used to repair leaks or restore structural stability to an existing sewer pipe.
The city encourages motorists to travel on West Wolfe and West Market streets as alternate routes.
Also Tuesday, work Norfolk Southern is scheduled to do on railroad tracks from noon until 3 p.m. will require limited access on Acorn Drive, from Virginia Avenue to Red Oak Street. Access will still be available to businesses located within this road closure; through-traffic will not be permitted.
According to the city, there is a chance the railroad work could be postponed until Wednesday from 9 a.m. until noon.
Residents with questions about the West Elizabeth Street closure should call the Harrisonburg Department of Public Utilities at 434-9959.
Questions regarding the Acorn Drive closure should be directed to Norfolk Southern at 353-7366.
